Hilary Leach - Holistic Practitioner and Centre Director

About Hilary

I am very lucky as many people dream of changing their career and I am living the dream!  It is so wonderful to be able to be involved treating clients and also providing the facilities for other like-minded therapists to see their clients.

I am convinced of the many benefits of complementary therapies and I can vouch for this from a personal perspective. I have quite a complicated medical history and I am convinced that if I did not have the support of the therapies (and the therapists!) I would not be as well as I am now.

I have still not managed to beat my weight problem, but I live in hope! In the meantime I hope that this means that people will not feel at all intimidated by coming to see me, even if a therapy involves some degree of undressing. Having a far from perfect figure myself means that I am the last person to judge anyone!

Qualifications and Experience

After completing a music degree I did the obvious thing and followed my Father into the insurance business!   Although I enjoyed the interaction with my clients I felt drawn to doing something more “hands on” so I decided to retrain as an Aromatherapist at the Revival School of Aromatherapy in Sutton. (A long established school of Aromatherapy approved by what is now the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists)

I qualified in August 2000 having completed an intensive diploma training course which involved a minimum of 200 hours in-class study, together with an extensive amount of home study and casework.

I began working on a part time basis at Renaissance, eventually giving up my insurance career and becoming a full time therapist.

Around that time it was recommended that I should try a short course of Bowen Therapy. I was very impressed as it helped me with a long term problem with my hip and knees and so I decided to train as a Bowen Therapist with David Howells and Julian Baker at the European College of Bowen Studies. (The ECBS is Europe's leading Bowen school, providing quality training in The Bowen Technique since 1993) Although it is not such a well-known therapy it is becoming more and more popular and I love practising it and never ceased to be amazed at the results that such a gentle therapy can achieve.

I then qualified as a Thermo-auricular therapist (Hopi Ear Candles), Reiki therapist and did a post graduate qualification in Indian Head Massage. I love the diversity of doing so many therapies although I have always been very careful to get the best qualifications available to ensure that I can offer the very best of care to my clients.

After a couple more years I decided to undertake another diploma in Reflexology with the Bayly School of Reflexology (The Bayly School was officially founded in 1978 by the late Doreen Bayly and was the first Reflexology training school to be established in Great Britain). I love the way that reflexology affects the whole of the body and not just the feet as some might think.

Next came a qualification in Hot Stone Massage and Foot Stone Therapy which are becoming more and more popular in spas around the country. The combination of massage and smooth hot stones is a wonderful experience that is the ultimate massage experience.

Finally I have been trained at the Penny Price Aromatherapy to administer Holistic Facials which combines an effective massage routine for the face, neck & décolletage with the use of natural products and essential oils. It is becoming very popular with my clients.

During this period I became a partner with Maureen Corbett who originally established Renaissance and then when she moved from Birmingham she allowed me to 'adopt' Renaissance and I have now run Renaissance on my own for the last seven years. (Happily Maureen returns to see her clients one day a week.)

Memberships and Continual Professional Development

I am a member of the following professional bodies:

The International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists

The British Reflexology Association

The Bowen Therapy Professional Association (Previously known as the Bowen Therapist’s European Register)

Each of these associations demand a high degree of professionalism from their members and each year I have to do Continual Professional Development in each of the therapies or related subjects.
