If you can see yourself getting up, going to work, doing whatever you do in the evening, going to bed… and having no cigarettes from the beginning of the day to the end – now is the time to take the plunge.
Fed Up With Smoking, But Can’t Break The Habit?
West Midlands hypnotherapist Richard Keeley thinks anyone can break free and kick the habit… if they can answer just one question.
Ever heard somebody say something along the lines of, “part of me wants to buy a new house out in the Shropshire countryside, but part of me would miss my friends too much.” The language we use reveals a lot about how our minds work. In any normal human being, there are different “parts” to the personality, and they’re often at odds with each other. An ambitious part, a more cautious part, a fun-loving part, a more serious part.
That’s why there are a lot of people who’ve been smoking for years and years, have stopped enjoying it, are worried about their health, angry with themselves about how much money they’re wasting, worried that their children might start smoking because they’ve seen their mum or dad smoke…. But even though they don’t want to keep on smoking there’s a small part of their personality that keeps driving them into going through the same old ritual they’ve gone through so many times a day since their teens, lighting up a cigarette and breathing in that nicotine-filled smoke. It’s that part of the person’s personality we talk to in hypnosis.
The good news is, you’re not defined by the things you’ve done today. If you’ve smoked a cigarette today, that label of being a “smoker” doesn’t have to be attached to you for the rest of your life. That experience you went through in your early teens of being offered a cigarette, feeling so adult and cool and sophisticated and in control, only to find after just a few more cigarettes the nicotine took control of YOU, and here we are, years later, in the future. A future where smoking is no longer viewed as sophisticated and adult by the majority of people. The thing that made you fit in as a teenager now forces you to go and stand outside like a child that’s done something wrong.
So here’s the one question you can ask yourself to see whether now is the time to take the plunge. Picture a day in the near future, let’s say next Monday. Picture yourself going through your day, getting up, going to work, doing whatever you do in the evening, going to bed… and having no cigarettes from the beginning of the day to the end.
If you find yourself picturing that day without cigarettes and are thinking about how amazing it would be to finally be free from the thing that’s been controlling you for all these years, ruining your health and your bank balance, the chances are that hypnotherapy will be the thing that finally sets you free.
So here’s the question. Are you ready for that day yet?
