Safety Guidelines when using oils or blends

CAUTIONS

Children

These Products should be kept out of reach of small children.

Flammable

Essential Oils are flammable. Do not place them on or near a naked flame except in a proper burner.

Solvents

Some oils are solvents and may damage certain plastics and polished wood surfaces and may stain fabrics.

Undiluted Oils

Undiluted essential oils should generally not be applied directly onto the skin as this can lead to irritation
of the skin.

Use

Do not use these Products as food flavouring, and do not take internally.

Internal Use

Never take oils by mouth.

Perfume

If you have an allergic reaction to perfume, you are also likely to be allergic to some essential oils.

A patch test can be carried out as detailed below but it may be that you should seek some other gentle form of therapy - Please refer to Contraindications below.

High Concentration

Essential oils are highly concentrated and therefore inappropriate use can cause undesirable side effects. Please ensure that they are used appropriately.

Eyes

Keep oils away from the eyes and do not rub your eyes after handling essential oils.

All essential oils, even when diluted, will cause stinging if they get into the eyes.

In the event of an accident!

  • If a product or undiluted oil
gets into the eyes, immediately flush the eyes with clean, warm water or
full-fat milk. If this does not alleviate the stinging and irritation then seek
    Medical Assistance.

  • If undiluted oil is present on
the fingers, it should be removed by gently scrubbing with a strong solution of
washing-up-liquid. Do not rub eyes if essential oils are on the fingers. Oils
that tend to persist on the fingers for a long time and can cause eye
    irritation are Cinnamon and Peppermint.

  • If undiluted oil is present on
other parts of the body, it should be removed by washing with warm, soapy
water. Dry the area thoroughly and apply hand cream, a medicated cream or, if
nothing else is available, a small amount of butter or margarine.

  • If there is an accidental
consumption of oils, seek Medical Assistance immediately.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Renaissance oils and blends are the highest therapeutic grade, unadulterated and pure essential oils therefore standard Aromatherapy cautions, precautions and procedures apply. In particular please note the following:-

Sensitivities/Allergies

Individuals may be sensitive/allergic to:-

  • Essential Oils, Perfumes or Cosmetics - any history of reactions to these may be relevant. If, for example,
you have had a reaction to a particular essential oil, then you should check if that essential oil is present in the Blend. Patch Test

If you are unsure if you are sensitive or allergic to any ingredients in the Products a Patch Test is necessary.

the Product a Patch Test should be conducted to ensure no adverse reaction

Place a small amount of the Product on the gauze of a plaster and put the plaster on a discreet part of the
body e.g. forearm. Leave for 2-4 hours then lift the plaster to see if there has been any reaction such as redness. In the event of a reaction do not use the Product.
